Chinese hawks at home
Modern western falconry teaching has all but discounted the screen perch, claiming it is an unsafe perch. I think this is a sad case of blaming the tool instead of the craftsman.

With that statement aside, it is amazing to western eyes to find hawks or falcons fastened to a pole like this. It is not an uncommon sight all over China, the only redeeming factor is that in such a populous country, a hawk is never left alone.

These two falcons and two goshawks were kept in a city apartment, and this was the first room that you entered coming into the apartment.
The goshawks were hunted on the edge of the city and the falcons were taken into the countryside farmland to fly at hares.
